A Joshua Tree camping weekend
Itineraries · Joshua Tree, CA · 3 days
A 3-day Joshua Tree National Park plan for friends: camp at Jumbo Rocks, hike Hidden Valley and Ryan Mountain, see Skull Rock and the Cholla Cactus Garden, catch sunset at Keys View, and end in Pioneertown.
Joshua Tree is about early starts and long, slow evenings. Hikes happen in the cool of the morning, the drives and short walks fill the afternoon, and nights are for the stars. Everything is planned from one campsite, so nobody has to pack up until the last day.

Tips
- There's no water at most campgrounds or trailheads. The park service suggests at least a gallon per person per day.
- Cell service is patchy inside the park. Download offline maps before you leave town.
- Campsites book up months ahead in spring. Reserve on recreation.gov as soon as you have dates.
- Nights get cold, even when the days are warm. Pack warm layers and a red light for stargazing.
