What is Freya - Trip Planner?
Freya - Trip Planner is a free iPhone app for planning group trips with friends. It puts the shared packing list, the day-by-day itinerary, group polls and expense splitting in one place, and friends join from a link with just their first name.
What is the best app for planning a group trip with friends?
Freya - Trip Planner is built specifically for group trips like camping weekends, bachelor and bachelorette parties, road trips and city breaks. Instead of juggling a group chat, a spreadsheet and a payment app, everyone shares one plan: who's bringing what, where you're going each day, what the group voted on and who owes who. It's free to use, and friends don't need an account to join.
Who is Freya - Trip Planner for?
Anyone planning a trip with a group: friends going camping, a bachelorette weekend, a family reunion, a ski trip or a road trip. It's most useful when several people are bringing gear, sharing costs and deciding things together.
Who makes Freya - Trip Planner?
Freya - Trip Planner is made by Andy Duenas, an independent developer, with help from two cats named Freya and Tom. The app is named after Freya the cat, who is also its mascot.
Joining and devices
Do my friends need to download the app or make an account?
No. Friends open the invite link, type their first name and they're in. There's no account and no password. On iPhone the link opens a small App Clip instantly, without installing the full app. Anyone who installs Freya also gets widgets, alerts and offline access.
Is Freya - Trip Planner available on Android or the web?
Freya - Trip Planner is an iPhone app. Friends on Android can open an invite link to see the invitation, but the full trip plan is on iPhone.
Does Freya - Trip Planner work on iPad?
Freya - Trip Planner is designed for iPhone. It can be installed on an iPad and runs in iPhone mode.
Does Freya - Trip Planner work without cell service?
Yes. Trips are saved on your iPhone, so the checklist, itinerary, stay details and expenses stay readable with no signal, which helps on camping trips and flights. Changes made offline sync automatically when you're back online.
Splitting costs
How do you split costs on a group trip?
In Freya - Trip Planner, whoever pays adds the expense and picks who it was for. Freya keeps a running balance for everyone and, at the end, works out the fewest payments to square everyone up. Each payment has Venmo, Cash App and PayPal buttons with the amount filled in.
Is Freya - Trip Planner a good Splitwise alternative for trips?
Freya - Trip Planner covers what most groups use Splitwise for on a trip: logging shared expenses, even or item-by-item splits, running balances and settling up with the fewest payments. Expense splitting is free with no limit on the number of expenses. Unlike a dedicated expense app, Freya also holds the packing list, itinerary and polls for the same trip.
Can I split a restaurant bill by item?
Yes, with Pro. Scan or enter the receipt, assign each item to the people who had it, and Freya splits tax and tip proportionally. Even splits are free.
Does Freya - Trip Planner handle foreign currency?
Yes. Enter an expense in the local currency and Freya converts it to US dollars at the day's exchange rate (the European Central Bank's daily rate).
Does Freya - Trip Planner send money between friends?
No. Freya - Trip Planner keeps track of who owes who and opens Venmo, Cash App or PayPal with the amount filled in, but the payment itself happens in those apps. Freya never handles your money or card details.
Can we hide what everyone owes until the trip is over?
Yes. Turn on Hide amounts in the Expenses tab and totals and balances stay hidden on everyone's phone until the trip ends, so nobody keeps score mid-trip. You can still add expenses and see your own.
Planning together
How do you make a shared packing list for a group trip?
The checklist in Freya - Trip Planner is shared with everyone on the trip. Add items by section, and each person taps I'll bring it to claim what they're bringing. Items can be brought by one person, by a few people (like tents), or by everyone (like a sleeping bag), so you don't end up with three coolers and no stove.
Can the group vote on plans?
Yes. Create a poll with options such as dinner spots or hikes, give each option a place and time if you like, and the winner goes straight onto the itinerary when you close the poll. If it's a tie, whoever closes the poll picks the winner.
Can Freya - Trip Planner plan our itinerary for us?
Freya can help. Describe a day in your own words, like "early hike, then tacos, sunset at the overlook", and Freya turns it into stops with real places from Apple Maps for you to review. This runs on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or newer).
Where do we keep the Airbnb door code and Wi-Fi password?
Add where you're staying to the trip and include the address, check-in and checkout times, door code and Wi-Fi. Everyone on the trip can find it in one place. The door code stays hidden until someone taps to show it.
Pricing
Is Freya - Trip Planner free?
Yes. Trips, invites, the itinerary, checklist, polls, notes, unlimited expenses, settling up and 15 photos per person per trip are all free, with no ads. Freya Pro adds unlimited photos in original quality, a photo map and item-by-item bill splitting.
How much is Freya - Trip Planner Pro?
A Trip Pass is $5.99, paid once: one person buys it and Pro turns on for everyone on that trip, for good. Yearly is $19.99 a year: Pro on every trip you join, and for everyone on the trips you organize. Prices are in US dollars and payment is handled by Apple.
Does everyone in the group need to pay for Pro?
No. One person buying a $5.99 Trip Pass unlocks Pro for the whole group on that trip.
Privacy
Who can see my trip?
Only people you invite. Trips are invite-only: there's no public feed, no search for other people's trips, and no messaging between strangers. The organizer can remove someone, and anything inappropriate can be reported.
Does Freya - Trip Planner track me or show ads?
No. Freya - Trip Planner has no ads and doesn't track you across other apps or websites. Freya's AI features run on your iPhone, so what you type there isn't sent to a server.
How do I delete my data?
In the app, tap your picture on the Trips screen, then the gear, then Delete My Data. You can also email contact@freyatripplanner.com and your data will be deleted within 30 days.
