Plan in Google Sheets or Docs, then bring it into Freya
Guide · Planning together
Start from a template so your whole group can edit the plan at once in Google Sheets or Google Docs, then import it to Freya with a link or a paste.
Some groups like to plan in a shared Google Sheet or Google Doc first, where everyone can add ideas at the same time. These templates are laid out so the plan comes into Freya exactly: every stop on its day, with its time, type and address.
Set it up for your group
- Download a template and upload it to Google Drive.
- Open it and choose File › Save as Google Sheets (or Save as Google Docs).
- Click Share and add your group, so everyone can edit at the same time.
- Replace the example trip with yours. Keep the header row in the sheet, and the Day headings in the doc.
How the sheet works
- One row per stop. Place is the only column you have to fill in.
- Day is 1, 2, 3 or a date. Leave it empty for ideas that aren't on a day yet; they come into Freya's Ideas list.
- Type is Do, Eat, Stay, Travel or Other. For Travel, put where the ride starts in From.
- If we have time: Yes for nice-to-haves.
- Who's going: first names when the group splits up, like Sam, Alex. Leave it empty when everyone's going. In the app, names that match people on the trip set Who's going on the stop.
- Add any other columns you like, such as Added by or Votes. Freya skips columns it doesn't use.
How the doc works
- A Day heading for each day, like Day 1 – Midtown.
- One line per stop: time – place, address – note. For example: 6:00 PM – Top of the Rock, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY – Book a sunset slot.
- Start a line with Eat:, Stay: or Travel: to set its type. Rides look like Travel: JFK Airport → The Hoxton.
- Put nice-to-haves under an If we have time heading, and anything without a day under Ideas.
- Splitting up? Under a stop, add a line like Who's going: Sam, Alex.
- Lines that start with Tip: at the top are instructions and are skipped.
Bring it into Freya
- Open the itinerary builder on freyatripplanner.com and choose Import.
- Choose Google link and paste the link to your sheet or doc. In Google, set Share › General access to Anyone with the link first.
- Or select everything in the sheet or doc, copy it, and paste it into Import › Paste. Or download it (File › Download › .csv or Plain text) and choose Import › File.
- Check what was found, then choose Use this plan. Choose Add to Freya to open it in the app on your iPhone.
Tip: Going the other way: in the builder, choose Export › Copy for Google Sheets, then click cell A1 in a new sheet and paste. Every stop fills its row, ready for the group to edit.
Already planning in a doc without a template? Import it anyway: day headings like Day 2 or Saturday and times like 9am are picked up from almost any layout.
